George Benjamin Chittenden was born in Conn. in Dec. 1849. A graduate of Yale University, he worked as a topographer for the U. S. Geological and Geographic Survey of the Territories conducted by Ferdinand V. Hayden in Colo. and Wyo. (1873-1877). Known as the Hayden Survey, the surveys helped define the Western U. Edward Clymer, a descendant of Declaration of Independence signer George Clymer, was a native of Berks County, Pennsylvania. George B. Chittenden was a topographer with the U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories, who worked on surveys in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.
